讲座简介:
The presentation starts out from the concept of everyday forms of resistance applying it to the ‘weapons’ used by Chinese entrepreneurs to engage in strategic action and exert political influence. It explores two questions: First, to what extent do private entrepreneurs in China act in a collective manner, and can hence be conceptualized as a ‘strategic group’; and second, how does strategic action by private entrepreneurs impact on the institutional structure of the existing order. The chapter argues that Chinese entrepreneurs increasingly turn to patterns of collective, though (yet) uncoordinated, goal-oriented action and develop a common identity. They are in the process of becoming a ‘strategic group’. However, in becoming such a group, China’s private entrepreneurs do not challenge the existing order but support it, thus playing the role of a system-stabilizer instead of a regime-challenger.
